Summer of Blender/02

9/2/2024

I am not sure if we are still technically in summer (It's September the 2nd as I write this), but nevertheless today I started learning a new aspect of Blender, character 3D modelling! And so far it's great :D

I sort of wonder what kind of rigging could work with this sort of simplified design. I'll probably try rigging it later and see.

Movies I've watched (and liked)

I've never watched a movie by Alice Rohrwacker before this one, and boy, I am glad I finally did.
It's a very peculiar film, not for every taste, but incredibly lovely if you into melancholic, dream-like movies. Josh O' Connor is INSANELY good in this one, and he does speak Italian in it, so he gets bonus points ;)

Cargo Quick Thumbnails

I enjoy doing thumbnails and I often do *A LOT* of them. Way too many scribbles end up laying around and of course sometimes the next day I can't make head or tail of the scribbles I've done the day before. Here just for posterity, the very first round of thumbnails on " Cargo", the short story written by Jim Zubb. I ended up doing a few more passes, not surprisingly ;)

Cargo, Page 2

For this second page, as a huge fan of @danielwarrenart I bought a ten point divider (see second photo) and watched one of his videos (he has many on YT, all worth your time) trying to figure out how to use it to get perfect perspective on the page.
I was always bad at geometry in High School and using this tool took me a LONG time...buuuut  I am pretty happy with how this page came out.

Summer of Blender/01

After years of saying " Next year I am learning Blender", this time I actually started! :D

The plan is to do as many tutorials as I can so I can get to know more and more the different tools available, so that later I can make a little project. It's a lot more fun than I thought!

Said that, my favorite Blender feature is definitely the community. Lots of great tutorials and many pages where people generously answer noob questions like mine.

So anyway, here's my first Greasepencil attempt, following the great Dedouze's tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/@dedouze

Take back Thursday

Wow, for once I got the right day to post old photos! This, as you can imagine, was one of the happiest days of my professional life. Master Glen Keane stopped by BrownBag Studio to ask questions about the animation pipeline here. Of his 45 minute stay, he spent half an hour grilling me on workflows and rigging setups we were using on Vampirina. At the beginning it was a bit unnerving but quickly became super  amazing. We were also able to show him some of the animation team's work and he paid compliments to the artists, which I am sure they won't forget. Master Keane seemed to me  very warm and at the same time a no-bullshit kind of person. Really inspiring!

Ad Astra sketch

I watch "Ad Astra" really really close to the 4K 55" screen we own and I really captured by it. I decided to exercise my non=existent inking and likeness skills on a shot featuring my twin brother Brad.
